Symptoms

PowerProtect Data Manager 用於透過 Transparent Snapshot Data Mover （TSDM） 解決方案保護 vSphere 環境。vSphere 安裝套裝 （VIB） 已成功部署於叢集中的 ESXi 主機。虛擬機器 （VM） 備份間歇性失敗，並顯示錯誤代碼ABV0016。PowerProtect Data Manager 使用者介面顯示：

ABV0016: VM Direct engine 'localhost' is unable to back up the virtual machine 'my-vm-name' on vCenter 'my-vcernter-name' because of a vCenter API issue.

The VM Direct engine cannot complete the backup of this virtual machine because of a vCenter API operation did not complete successfully.

To troubleshoot this issue: 1) Verify that the vCenter can be reached. 2) If the vCenter is busy, wait for some activities to complete and then retry the operation. 3) Verify that the virtual machine exists on the vCenter.

Cause

託管受影響 VM 的 ESXi Hypervisor 尚未啟動 Data Protection Daemon （DPD） 服務。當 vMotion 使用已停止的 DPD 服務將受影響的 VM 移至 ESXi Hypervisor 時，間歇性發生此問題。

Resolution

請確保 DPD 服務已在叢集中的所有 ESXi 主機上啟動。如果服務已停止，請選取 DPD 服務和啟動選項。

您也可以使用 SSH 工作階段與 ESXi 主機重新啟動 DPD 服務。 
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is stopped
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd start
Starting dpd:Setting the memory limit for dpd resource pool on this host to 300 MB
Setting max number of file descriptors to 800
Setting MALLOC_ARENA_MAX to 20
success
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is running
