PowerProtect: How to move the Search Node or Reporting Node to a New vCenter

Summary: The PowerProtect environment was configured with a source vCenter, and the Search Node and or Reporting Node must be moved to a new vCenter Server.

Instructions

The PowerProtect Data Manager Elastic Search database contains metadata of the initially deployed vCenter and must be updated when moved to a new vCenter. The Elastic Search database index (index_vmdirect_infrastructure_node) must be updated with the infranodemgmt command-line utility to reflect the new vCenter server.

  1. The new vCenter Asset Source should be added to PowerProtect Data Manager under Infrastructure > Asset Sources.
  2. Connect to the PowerProtect Data Manager over SSH and authenticate with the admin account:
ssh admin@<my-ppdm.mydomain.com>
  1. Load the environment variables into the shell:
source /opt/emc/vmdirect/unit/vmdirect.env
  1. Get the list of registered Search and Reporting Nodes:
/opt/emc/vmdirect/bin/infranodemgmt get
  1. From the output, obtain the "Node ID" value for the Search and or Reporting Nodes that require the vCenter update.
  2. Modify the Node IDs with the new vCenter (enclose Node ID in single quotes):
/opt/emc/vmdirect/bin/infranodemgmt modify -node_id '<infranodemgmt-Node-ID>' -vcenter_hostname <my-vcenter.mydomain.com>
  1. Get the list of registered Search and Reporting Nodes to confirm the update:
/opt/emc/vmdirect/bin/infranodemgmt get

Example of procedure:

admin@ppdm:~> source /opt/emc/vmdirect/unit/vmdirect.env

admin@ppdm:~> /opt/emc/vmdirect/bin/infranodemgmt get
