Symptoms

PowerProtect Data Manager 19.22 backups are successful.

Bare Metal Recovery: BMR Error: PPDM ARA0001:Unable to restore FILE_SYSTEM asset DISASTER_RECOVERY:\ Unable to copy the metadata file from the data target.

DD Boost API (fsys_readv()) is failing to download the backup metadata file. It fails to write() from Data Domain randomly during metadata download.

This does not happen at the same offset. That is every time it gets terminated at a random offset.

Cause

The issue is that the metadata file size is huge (~1.5GB). Copying this to the WinPE system drive fills up the WinPE usable memory as the system disk is loaded in memory and the process gets terminated. 

This is a design issue. 

Resolution

Upgrade PowerProtect Data Manager to version 19.23 which includes the code fix.
