Symptoms
No Boot After Using Fn & Power Diagnostic Mode
When attempting to run e-Diags by pressing the Fn and Power buttons together, the system completes the quick test and exits, but instead of booting to the OS, it returns to the e-Diags screen.
There is no issue when running e-Diags by pressing F12 for a one-time bootup.
Affected Systems:
- XPS 13 9345
- Latitude 7455
- Inspiron 14 plus 7441
Cause
When the system boots from the Fn and Power button, the e-Diags flag is set, not cleared. It causes a repeat boot into Diagnostics.
Resolution
Recovery:
- After the diagnostic tests are complete, press the power button once to shut down the system.
- Then power on to avoid booting into diagnostics.
Solution:
Updating to the latest BIOS version on the computer resolves the issue. To download and install the BIOS, reference BIOS Update Guide.
- XPS 13 9345: Update BIOS to version 2.1.0 or later
- Latitude 7455: Update BIOS to version 2.2.0 or later
- Inspiron 14 plus 7441: Update BIOS to version 2.2.0 or later
