Symptoms
NMDA Sybase backup fails with the following errors:
- From the
nsrdasv log:
Unable to create the syb worker pool.
run_sybase_child: Exiting with error: The child nsrdasv exited with a non-zero return code: 139
- From the
SAP ASE log:
There are not enough 'user connections' available to start a new process. Retry when there are fewer active users, or ask your System Administrator to reconfigure ASE with more user connections.
Error: 1601, Severity: 17, State: 3Cause
The failure occurs because SAP ASE has insufficient available user connections. This prevents NMDA from creating the Sybase worker pool required for backup execution.
Resolution
Engage the SAP ASE Database Administrator to:
- Increase the user connections configuration in
ASEto ensure adequate resources for backup operations. - Monitor connection usage during backup windows to proactively identify and resolve resource constraints.
