Symptoms

A Dell monitor may experience one or more of the following symptoms after installing the January 2025 Windows Update:

  • The camera is not recognized.
  • The camera is not responding.
  • The camera shows a black screen.
  • The monitor firmware update is stuck during the update process.
  • The monitor firmware update fails to flash the firmware.

Cause

Security enhancement from Microsoft blocks the camera or the firmware update.

Resolution

Solution for the Camera and for the Monitor Firmware Update Failure:

  1. Install the latest Windows January 28/29 Updates. To get the latest updates, enable the option to receive the latest updates once they are available.
    • Windows 11 24H2 - Get the latest updates as soon as they're available
    • Lower Windows version - Under Advance Options - Get me up to date
    Note: Fixes are applied in these Microsoft updates
