NetWorker: How to Access NMC After Upgrading To 19.13

Install Oracle JDK 17 or NRE 17.0.x. NRE is available through Dell Support NetWorker Driver Downloads.

Before Proceeding:

There are a few things to note when upgrading from NetWorker 19.12.0.x to 19.13.x and NRE 17.x

• You cannot install both NRE 8.0.x and 17.0.x on the same system. When you upgrade NRE from 8.0.x to 17.0.x, it removes 8.0.x from the system. Meaning, if the environment contains both 19.12 (or prior) and 19.13.x NetWorker servers, it will only be possible to access the 19.13.x servers after upgrading NRE.
• NRE 17.x uses JDK 17.x instead of JRE 8.x. There are differences in how the NMC is accessed. NRE 17.x provides OpenWebStart which facilitates the "Runtime Environment" used to launch the NMC. 
• Unlike NRE 8.0.x, there is no "NMC Launcher" shortcut. 

Initial NRE 17 Configuration:

1. After installing NRE 17.0.x, launch openwebstart from the NRE installation path

2. Complete the openwebstart installation. Optionally, install for the current user only or all users of the system. This depends on if the host is accessed by a single user or multiple users. Leave all other options default.
3. After installing openwebstart, launch the itw-settings.exe from C:\Program Files\OpenWebStart
4. From the openwebstart console, go to JVM Manager
5. From JVM Manager, click Add Local
6. Browse to the NRE java installation. For example:

7. Click Open.
8. NRE now appears in the JVM Manager window:

9. From JVM Manager, click Settings.
10. Under, Update Strategy, select Do not download any version:

11. Click Ok.
12. From JVM Manager, click Apply, then click Ok.
13. Go to C:\Users\USER_NAME\.config\icedtea-web and open deployment.properties with a text editor. Add the following line:

14. Save and close the file.
15. Go to C:\Program Files\OpenWebStart and open javaws.vmoptions with a text editor. Add the following lines:

-XX:+IgnoreUnrecognizedVMOptions
--add-modules=java.se.ee
-Xms256m
-Xmx2048m

16. Save and close the file.
17. Open a web-browser and go to https://NMC-SERVER-ADDRESS:9000
18. The browser may report a warning when using the default NMC server's self-signed certificate. Accept the warning and proceed.
19. Click Launch Console:

20. This downloads the NMC server's gconsole.jnlp file.
21. Copy the gconsole.jnlp file to a location of your choosing (for example: C:\Users\Public\Desktop) Use this to launch the NMC. The shortcut can be renamed as per your discretion.

Accessing the NMC:

1. Launch the NMC using the new gconsole.jnlp shortcut created after completing the above steps.
2. Click Yes in the openwebstart console to trust the NMC server certificate.
3. Click Run at the Security Approval Prompt:
