Connectrix B-Series: Display Warning when SNMPv3 User is Using Weak Cipher Protocols

Summary: Use the SHA512 authentication protocol instead of deprecated MD5 and SHA to resolve the SNMPv3 warning on Connectrix B-Series switches running FOS 9.2.x.

Message:
WARNING: Some of the SNMPv3 users are configured with authentication protocols MD5 and SHA, which are deprecated in the target FOS version. 
Please migrate to using SHA512 as soon as possible after upgrade. 
Using SHA512 will be required to upgrade to the next FOS release.


Configuring SNMPv3 User Account:

To configure the SNMPv3 user account, follow these steps:
  1. Log in to the switch using the admin role.
  2. Run the below command to access the SNMPv3 configuration menu:
`snmpconfig --set snmpv3` 
  1. Select the authentication protocol as SHA512 (option 4) for the SNMPv3 user account.
  2. Enter a new authentication password and confirm it.
  3. Select the privacy protocol as AES256 (option 4) for the SNMPv3 user account.
  4. Enter a new privacy password and confirm it.
  5. Save the changes and exit the configuration menu.

Verifying SNMPv3 Configuration:

Follow the below answers and commands:
sw0:FID128:admin> snmpconfig --set snmpv3

SNMP Informs Enabled (true, t, false, f): [false]

SNMPV3 Password Encryption Enabled (true, t, false, f): [true]

SNMPv3 user configuration(snmp user not configured in FOS user database will have default VF context and admin role as the default):


User (ro): [admin]

Auth Protocol [MD5(1)/SHA(2)/noAuth(3)/SHA512(4)]: (1..4) [4]

New Auth Passwd:

Priv Protocol [DES(1)/noPriv(2)/AES128(3)/AES256(4)]): (1..4) [4]

New Priv Passwd:

SNMPv3 trap/inform recipient configuration:

Trap Recipient's IP address : [10.173.120.xx]

Caution: Using SHA and MD5 authentication protocols is deprecated and may cause issues in future FOS releases. It is recommended to use SHA512 as the authentication protocol for SNMPv3 user accounts.

Additional Information

It is recommended to use SHA512, because this is the supported authentication protocol on the FOS 9.2.0.
