Symptoms
Following an upgrade of PowerPath from 5.5.x to 6.0 P02, a Solaris host is logging the following errors in /var/adm/messages:
genunix: [ID 370176 kern.warning] WARNING: forceload of misc/emcpvlumd failed
genunix: [ID 370176 kern.warning] WARNING: forceload of misc/emcpxcrypt failed
Cause
These errors logged because forceload statements for both emcplvumd and emcpxcrypt are included in /etc/system.
However both PowerPath encryption (emcpxcrypt) and PowerPath volume manager (emcplvumd) functionality have been discontinued and do not exist in PowerPath 6.X code.
Resolution
The errors are benign and can be ignored. However to prevent the errors logging on subsequent reboots, the following forceload options should be commented out of /etc/system:
forceload: misc/emcpvlumd
forceload: misc/emcpxcrypt
Additional Information
Solaris 10
PowerPath 6.0 SP2
