Symptoms

The on-screen keyboard has lag issues as you enter a BitLocker password

 

You can experience keyboard lag issues using your Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme tablets on-screen keyboard. They occur as you enter the BitLocker password outside of the operating system in the BitLocker screen. Two different keyboard lag issues are reported:

  • Issue one: The touch keyboard icon takes up to 14 seconds to appear in the upper right corner of the BitLocker password screen 
  • Issue two: The characters appearing on-screen visibly lag behind pressing the keys on the touch keyboard to enter the BitLocker password
Note: The touch keyboard icon only takes around four seconds on average to appear when working correctly.

Cause

The Engineering team advises that they occur due to your tablet running older versions of the Basic Input Output System (BIOS):

  • Anyone with the BIOS up to and including version 1.10.1 reports issues one
  • Anyone with the BIOS on version 1.12.0 reports issue two

Resolution

Note: You must have administrator rights on your laptop to make any operating system changes or update any software.

Update the BIOS to the Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme Tablet System BIOS, version 1.13.1 or later. Using the instructions in the following linked article you can download and install the Latitude_7230_1.13.1.exe update file:
