The calculation of latency depends on the OS or platform, but generally they all track latency in a similar way:

 

Latency is measured as the average time (in milliseconds) for each I/O operation to travel through the host stack and back. This means that the latency reported by Live Optics often differs from the latency reported by the disk arrays. This discrepancy occurs because hosts often queue I/O operations before sending them to the SAN, and Optical Prime accounts for this queue time.

However, the latency reported by tools like Perfmon should be identical to that reported by an Optical Prime project, as both are measuring the same counter.
