Summary: After an Import session is cancelled, stale PowerStore device mapper entries remain on the Linux host.

Symptoms

During the life of an Import session, you may cancel the Import at any time prior to the final Cutover/Completion step.  The system will also automatically cancel Import sessions under certain fault conditions.  In most cases, the canceled sessions will rollback the state of the volume to the original source array and host mappings, as if an Import had never taken place.  However, there are scenarios, such as network interruptions, that can cause some of the rollback steps to fail.

Resolution

1. Issue

If Import cancellation and rollback do not successfully deconfigure all settings, there could be a situation where the PowerStore volumes that were created in support of the Import, with its corresponding device mappings to the Linux Host, may not be properly removed.  In this scenario, the PowerStore devices may show the following multipath messages:
# multipath -ll
Feb 20 09:13:31 | 68:144: cannot find block device
Feb 20 09:13:31 | 68:144: Empty device name

2. Solution

The following steps can be taken to flush the stale PowerStore device mappings from the Linux Host:

1. On the Linux Import host, if you know the World-wide name (WWN) IDs of the stale PowerStore device entries, you can flush the devices one-by-one from the multipath database:
# multipath -f <PowerStore_volume_wwnid>
2. Alternatively, you may reboot your Linux host, which will remove the stale entries, or manually restart the multipath service:
# service multipathd restart
