Affected Monitors:
- Alienware 32 4K OLED Gaming Monitor AW3226Q
- Alienware 39 5K OLED Gaming Monitor AW3926QW
Cause
These monitors use a 3-sub 4-stack OLED panel. Like any display technology, it comes with its own set of tradeoffs. Some variation in brightness uniformity is a known characteristic of this panel type and is not a defect. Dell Technologies chose it for its longer panel lifespan, superior color accuracy, stronger HDR performance, and improved texture quality.
Resolution
- The brightness reduction is an expected result of the Constant Power Control (CPC) protection mechanism.
Note: CPC is a built-in power-management and dimming feature used in monitor panels that darkens the outer edges of the display to reduce the risk of burn-in.
- Brightness gradually recovers after switching to uniform content.
- Increasing the brightness setting may help reduce the difference between the screen center and edge.
