Place the SDS into Protected Maintenance Mode (recommended) using one of these methods:

If this is a hyperconverged node, entering Service Mode in PowerFlex Manager should put SDS into Maintenance Mode, and also put ESXi host into Maintenance Mode.

Before proceeding, ensure that the host that is getting disk firmware upgrade is in Maintenance Mode and not in use. The host is rebooted during the following steps.

Disk firmware upgrade:

  1. Log in to the iDRAC web interface using your credentials.
  2. Go to Storage > Physical Disks.
  3. Click the + to view details of the drive.
  4. Verify the firmware level. This example shows B01C.

  1. Click Dashboard in the iDRAC interface. Click the arrow next to Graceful Shutdown and choose Power Cycle System (cold boot).
  2. You can monitor the progress by opening the remote console through the iDRAC.8. The node automatically enters the Lifecycle Controller and applies the firmware update.
  3. Once this operation finishes, the node automatically reboots back to the operating system.
  4. Verify that the update is successfully applied by reissuing the lsscsi -s command in the operating system or checking the Storage view in iDRAC.
  5. Exit vSphere Maintenance Mode to bring the node back to operational state.
  6. Power on the SVM and validate it starts successfully.
  7. Remove the SDS from PowerFlex Maintenance Mode and confirm that rebalance operations complete successfully before moving to the next node.
