PowerVault: ME5 directly connected Initiators show a redundancy warning
Summary: ME5 directly connected Initiators show the redundancy warning icon in the UI after updating to +ME5.1.2.1.0.
Symptoms
ME5 directly connected Initiators show the redundancy warning and icon in the UI after updating to +ME5.1.2.1.0.
This applies to FC, SAS, and iSCSI… if directly attached/connected.
The individual initiators of a host show the redundancy warning and icon in the UI.
Figure 1:
The parent host however shows everything green and OK.
Logically this makes sense.
A SAS initiator cannot possibly have "redundant" connections. A SAS initiator can only have one SAS connection to the SAN.
The host has two initiators. One connection to each controller
Initiators used to inherit redundancy status from their parent host in version ME5.1.2.0.3 and older
In a direct connection, you see an error on initiator for redundancy but not on host.
Figure 2:
But if one initiator (FC) is connected to a Fiber switch and zoned to multiple targets (both controller ports), then no redundancy error is observed.
