Instructions
Dell Command | Update (DCU) is a stand-alone application for commercial client computers that provides updates for system software Dell releases. This application simplifies the BIOS, firmware, driver, and application update experience for Dell commercial client hardware. This application can also be used to install drivers after the operating system and network drivers are installed based on the computer identity.
Latest Release
| DCU 5.6 for Computers with Intel or AMD Processors (Released November 2025) | DCU 5.6 for Computers with ARM Processors (Released November 2025) |
If Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application is listed, then it is the Universal Windows Application (UWP) variant.
If Dell Command | Update is listed, then it is the Classic variant.
Known issues:
- If Dell Client Device Manager (DCDM) 1.0 is present on the system and Dell Command | Update (DCU) 5.5 is manually installed, the DellClientManagement Service may become corrupted, causing it to stop and be disabled.
- Application notifications may fail to function properly. It is recommended to uninstall both DCDM 1.0 and DCU 5.5, then reinstall DCU 5.5 to restore full functionality.
- On a fresh installation, the ConsentOverride registry key is not created by default, which may prevent telemetry events from being triggered. This key can be created using the ADMX template provided by DCU or through deployment via Management Suite. Until the key is created, telemetry data will not be transmitted.
- If any product coexists with Dell Core Services (DCS) and DCS is uninstalled, all associated agents may transition to an Unknown State. DCS is a critical component, and its removal disrupts agent status.
- If .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher is not installed, users will receive an error popup indicating the missing runtime, and the installation will be aborted.
- During silent installation, the absence of the required .NET runtime will be logged in the installation log, and the installation will be terminated.
- For Dell TechHub (DTH) v1.5.26.6, the following requirements apply:
- Intel systems: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher (x64)
- ARM systems: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher (both arm64 and x64)
- For Dell Tech Management (DTM) functionality:
- Intel systems: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher (x64)
- ARM systems: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.8 or higher (both arm64 and x64)
- Installation should proceed only if these conditions are met. Otherwise, a popup should notify the user, and the installation should be halted.
