| Within dynamic pools, if a System drive fails (DPE drives from slot 0-3), and user data has been configured, the user data extents are copied to spare extent space within the pool. The system data is not rebuilt until the failed drive is replaced. For Unity 4.3 code, when a system drive fails, data extents are copied to spare extent space on the remaining drives. However, if a valid spare drive exists elsewhere in the system, it is not allowed to be pulled into the pool to replenish spare extent space. Once the failed system drive is replaced, the appropriate user extent data is copied back to the new system drive. As a result, user data built on system drives no longer leaves the system drive location and always remains as a member of the pool. If a non-system drive fails before a failed system drive can be replaced, the non-system drive is rebuilt from any available spare drive. If more than one system drive fails before the system drive can be replaced, the system goes into Service Mode. For normal drive failure outside of the system drive realm, the data extents are rebuilt to spare space, and if available, a spare drive is selected to replenish spare space. |
