Unable to wirelessly tether your iPhone to your Dell laptop?

 

For those people who are having an issue wirelessly tethering their iPhone device to their Dell Windows laptop, there are steps that you can take.

Note: Dell does not support Wi-Fi tethering on its mobile devices. The following information is provided for your general knowledge and are used at your own risk. Dell does not guarantee connectivity using wireless tethering.

Causa

What is Wireless Tethering?

Wireless Tethering (AKA: phone-as-modem) is when you share a mobile phone device's Internet connection with other internet-capable devices. Connection of a mobile phone device with other devices can be done over:

  • Wireless Local Area Network (LAN)
  • Bluetooth
  • Physical connection using a cable, such as USB

Risoluzione

While the default wireless channel is 5 GHz, you can attempt to force a connection at 2.4 GHz on an iPhone by following these steps:

  1. Right-click the Start Menu icon and select Device Manager from the power user menu that appears.

  2. Go down to Network Adapters and click the + or > to expand it.

  3. Right-click your wireless adapter and select Properties from the menu that appears.

  4. Click the advanced tab.

  5. Under property, select Preferred Band.

  6. Under value, select prefer 2.4 GHz Band.

  7. Click the OK button and close Device Manager.

  8. Go through the tethering process with your iPhone.

Note: Making changes using the Device Manager Application requires administrator privileges.
