Enable software defined persistent memory in the BIOS

This procedure describes how to prepare software defined persistent memory (SDPM) for use as an acceleration device. PowerFlex appliance with an integrated management cluster (KVM) with SDPM requires manual configuration.

About this task

SDPM is software-defined persistent memory used for PowerFlex acceleration pools available. SDPM is available on PowerFlex R660 and PowerFlex R760 nodes only.

Steps

  1. Open a web browser to the iDRAC IP address and log in.
  2. From the dashboard, click Virtual Console to open a session.
  3. Start a KVM session.
  4. Click Boot and select BIOS setup, and click Yes.
  5. Click Power and select Power On system.
  6. Select System BIOS > Memory Settings > Persistent Memory > Software Define Persistent Memory. Set the memory size according to the chart below:

Alternatively, you can calculate persistent memory capacity and RAM capacity using the following formulas:

The calculation is in binary MiB, GiB, and TiB; persistent memory_capacity_in_GiB = ((100 * number_of_drives) + (700

* capacity_in_TiB))/1024 RAM_capacity_in_GiB = 10 + ((100 * number_of_drives) + (550 * capacity_in_TiB))/1024

 

  1. Click Back.
  2. Select Enabled for Sanitize all SDPMs.
  3. Click OK on the SDPM data will be erased warning box.
  4. Click Back > Back > Finish, then click Yes to confirm.
  5. Click OK on Settings.
  6. Click Finish to exit, and click Yes to confirm.

 

Update the SDPM value

Use this procedure to configure SDPM using iDRAC.

About this task

Depending on the node capacity, you can use this procedure to modify the SDPM capacity.

NOTE: This procedure is applicable only for PowerFlex R660/R760 nodes.

For PowerFlex R660/R760 nodes, the SDPM and NVDIMM page is accessed from the iDRAC.

Steps

  1. Log in to the iDRAC.
  2. Click the Configuration tab and select BIOS Settings.
  3. Expand Memory Settings and select Persistent Memory.
  1. Under Software Defined Persistent Memory, change the SDPM Default Memory Size according to the value mentioned in the table.
  2. To sanitize the SDPM:
    1. Log in to the iDRAC.
    2. Click the Configuration tab and select BIOS Settings.
    3. Expand Memory Settings and select Persistent Memory.
    4. Select Enable Sanitize ALL NVDIMMs option from the dropdown menu.

CAUTION: Any data on the SDPM will be erased when you enable the Sanitize option.
