This article is for those of you who are looking to use their Touch-enabled Dell computer as a KIOSK unit. However, you are having trouble finding the right way to disable functions such as:
The following link takes you to a Microsoft Support page that takes you through configuring a KIOSK on Windows 10:
Swipes: Touchpad
Click the Start Menu.
Select Settings.
Go to Devices.
Go to Touchpad.
Click Additional Settings.
Mouse Properties opens up a window, click the Dell Touchpad Tab.
Click change Dell Touchpad settings.
Dell touchpad properties open up a window, click Gestures.
Click Multi Finger Gestures.
Untick the check boxes for both the Three and Four finger gestures.
Select Save.
Swipes: Touchscreen
Downgrade to a Windows Operating System that supports this (For example: Windows 8.1)
Disable edge swipe using Group Policies:
Open a Run box. (Press the Windows and R together.)
Type: gpedit.msc
and select OK
Go to Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Edge UI
in the left-hand side column.
Double-click or tap the Allow edge swipe policy in the right-hand side column to edit it.
Mark the check box next to Disabled and click Apply and OK.
Close the application, sign out and back in to Windows and then restart the computer to see the changes take effect.
Disable the edge swipe using the Registry:
Open a Run box. (Press the Windows and R keys together.)
Type: regedit
and select OK
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Edge UI
in the left-hand side column.Edit the text in the right-hand side column to "AllowEdgeSwipe"=-.
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Edge UI
in the left-hand side column.
Edit the text in the right-hand side column to "AllowEdgeSwipe"=dword:0000000
.
Exit and save changes.
Sign out and back in to Windows and then restart the computer to see the changes take effect.
Gestures: Touchpad
Click the Start Menu.
Select Settings.
Go to Devices.
Go to Touchpad.
Click Additional Settings.
Mouse Properties opens up a window, click the Dell Touchpad Tab.
Click change Dell Touchpad settings.
Dell touchpad properties open up a window, click Gestures.
Turn Gestures off.
Select Save.
Gestures: Touchscreen
Downgrade to a Windows Operating System that supports this (For example: Windows 8.1)
Use a combination of group policies and registry edits:
Create a group policy.
Open a Run box. (Press the Windows and R keys together.)
Type: gpedit.msc and select OK
Go to Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Edge UI
in the left-hand side column.
Double-click or tap the Allow edge swipe policy in the right-hand side column to edit it.
Mark the check box next to Disabled and click Apply and OK.
Close the application, sign out and in to Windows and then restart the computer to see the changes take effect.
Completely disable the Action Center using the Registry.
Open a Run box. (Press the Windows and R keys together.)
Type: regedit
and select OK
Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
in the left-hand side column.
Create a new DWORD with the following text in the right-hand side column - DisableNotificationCenter=1
.
Completely disable New Action Center Sidebar and Restore Previous UI.
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
in the left-hand side column.
Edit the text in the right-hand side column to UseActionCenterExperience DWORD= 0 (default = 1)
.
Exit and save changes.
Sign out and back in to Windows and then restart the computer to see the changes take effect.
Pinch and Zoom: Touchpad
Click the Start Menu.
Select Settings.
Go to Devices.
Go to Touchpad.
Click Additional Settings.
Mouse Properties opens up a window, click the Dell Touchpad Tab.
Click change Dell Touchpad settings.
Dell touchpad properties open up a window, click Gestures.
Clear out the check box for the Zoom option.
Select Save.
Pinch and Zoom: Touchscreen
Downgrade to a Windows Operating System that supports this (For example: Windows 8.1)
Alternatively disable the function in the applications, not the operating system. (see the section below.)
Disable Pinch and Zoom in Chrome using a Command-Line Switch:
Open a Run box. (Press the Windows and R keys together.)
Type: CMD and select OK
Enter the following command to change the directory:
cd \Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application
Enter the following command to run the command-line switch:
chrome --disable-pinch
Disable Pinch and Zoom in Firefox using its preference settings:
Open a Firefox tab.
Type: about:config
and press the Enter key
Click the button promising to be careful and accepting the risk.
In the search box type: Browser.gesture.pinch
and double-click the entries that it pulls up
Change their value to False and save and exit.
Disable Pinch and Zoom in Internet Explorer 11 using the Registry:
Open a Run box. (Press the Windows and R keys together.)
Type: regedit
and select OK
Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet_Explorer\Zoom
in the left-hand side column.
Edit the text in the right-hand side column to "ZoomDisabled"=dword:00000001
.
Exit and save changes.
Disable Pinch and Zoom in Microsoft Edge using the Registry:
Set a default page zoom value in the More (…) menu in the Edge Browser.
Open a Run box. (Press the Windows and R keys together.)
Type: regedit
and select OK
Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local_Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge.~\MicrosoftEdge\Zoom
in the left-hand side column. (where ~ represents a number that may change from computer to computer.)
Create text in the right-hand side column as dword: ZoomDisabled
.
Double-click ZoomDisabled
and set its data to 1.
Exit and save changes.
