Symptoms

EMC9998W SIM alert for RESYNC appears even though device ranges were excluded using the HC EXCLUDE_DEVICE_RANGE parameter:

Cause

SRDF Host Component intercepts SIM alerts using LOGREC exit, regardless of the EXCLUDE_DEVICE_RANGE parameter.

Resolution

SRDF Host Component uses a LOGREC exit that traps all SIM alerts.

SIM alerts are held until Input or Output (I/O) is sent to the Symmetrix and re-driven.

RESYNC SIM alerts occur when mirrored Business Continuance Volumes (BCVs) are split or Remote Data Facility (RDF) devices are spun up or down.

The EXCLUDE_DEVICE_RANGE parameter does not affect SIM message processing or alert trapping.
 

The SRDF initialization parameter, Message_Processing=NO, can be specified. This disables the ability for SRDF Host Component to intercept and interpret certain SIM messages. However, the SIM messages continue to appear in the syslog as IEA480E Service Alert Error messages.
