Symptoms

The VMware Proxy bundle is required for troubleshooting the following scenarios.

  • VMware Image Backup
  • VMware Image Restore
  • VMware File Level Recovery

Cause

Avamar Proxy logs are required for deeper analysis.

Resolution

Follow these steps to collect the Avamar Proxy logs:

  1. Log in to an Avamar proxy that requires troubleshooting.
  2. Elevate to root user:
su - root
  1. Run the following command: 
cd /usr/local/avamarclient/bin/; ./FileCollector 2>/dev/null && tar cvfz /usr/local/avamarclient/bin/logs/ProxyBundle.tgz /var/avamar/axion* /usr/local/avamarclient/bin/logs/FlrDefaultLogBundleName.zip
  1. Collect the proxy log bundle that has been generated with the previous command:
/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/logs/ProxyBundle.tgz

The instructions above collect the following elements.

FileCollector is run and collects the following logs:

/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/MountPoint/logs
/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/MountPoint/mount
/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/MountPoint/results
/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/config.xml
/usr/local/avamarclient/var-proxy-1/avvmwfile.cmd
/tmp/flr_debug.txt
/tmp/flr_msg.txt
/tmp/flr_out.txt

FileCollector also merges the following logs in to /usr/local/avamarclient/bin/logs/VmwareFlrMerged.log, and adds it to the generated .zip file.

/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/logs/VmwareFlrWs.log
/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/logs/VmwareFlr.log
/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/logs/MountMgr.log
/usr/local/avamarclient/bin/logs/VmMgr.log

It also collects the logs from /usr/local/avamar/var which are:

avagent log files
axionfs log files
