Dossier is a SMB/NTFS file walking scan that will quickly, like 10GBs per second quickly, run through a file system. It also identifies these eight pieces of data.

• Created Date
• Last Accessed
• Last Modified
• File Type or Extension
• File Size
• File Count
• Optional: Compression Potential
• Optional: De-Dupe potential

It is amazing what you can do with these eight pieces of data to formulate interesting views of your data. Most importantly it gives you the information you must understand your potential to archive data or prune tier one storage to a more economical platform.

Optical Prime and Dossier are different. While traditional Optical Prime is looking at performance-based data, Dossier is looking at file level metadata. These mean it produces its own workload as it combs through the file system.

We have set the scan at the most optimal settings. However, we give you the ability to tweak throttles and set low and high scan periods based on work hours.

In most commercial spaces, these scans occur fast. However, if you attempt to scan PBs of data, you expect this to take a corresponding about of time!

Only PPT output format is available currently, but we eventually integrate this into a Viewer like you are used to with Optical Prime.

The dossier does NOT record NAS performance. We made a judgment call, and we decided that file characterization was much more meaningful to IT Pros than performance. People want to know what is creating their storage and how much of it is just archive!
