Symptoms

Symptom Code Severity Alerts Description
1807 Warning S3_CONNECTION_LIMIT_WARNING If the number of S3 connections exceed 80% of the maximum allowed S3 connections
1808 Error S3_CONNECTION_LIMIT_ERROR If the number of S3 connections exceed 90% of the maximum allowed S3 connections
1809 Critical S3_CONNECTION_LIMIT_CRITICAL If the number of S3 connections exceed 100% of the maximum allowed S3 connections

 

Cause

The number of S3 connections is too high.

Resolution

The following configurations (CMF) can be modified. Suggest to keep the default values to avoid too many notifications.

  1. com.emc.ecs.alert.s3.window_duration
    1. The time window for which duplicate alerts are not raised
    2. Default value: 60 minutes
  2. com.emc.ecs.alert.s3.max_alerts_per_window
    1. The maximum number of alerts raised by different server nodes per window 
    2. Each server node only raises an alert per window
    3. Default value: 5
  3. com.emc.ecs.alert.s3.max_clients_per_window
    1. Top N clients which are consuming the most connections
    2. The message includes client IP and the number of the connections from the client. 
    3. Default value: 3
  4. com.emc.ecs.alert.s3.percentage_connection_limit_warning
    1. The percentage of the maximum connections at which warning alert is raised
    2. Default value: 80
  5. com.emc.ecs.alert.s3.percentage_connection_limit_error
    1. The percentage of the maximum connections at which error alert is raised
    2. Default value: 90
  6. com.emc.ecs.alert.s3.percentage_connection_limit_critical
    1. The percentage of the maximum connections at which critical alert is raised
    2. Default value: 100

Suggest to keep the default value to avoid excessive notification.
If needed open an SR with the ECS Customer Support team if changes required.
