Pokyny

The operating temperature for an XtremIO X1 cluster is specified as 10 degrees C (50 degrees F) to 35 degrees C (95 degrees F). The nonoperating temperature for an XtremIO X1 cluster is specified as -20 degrees C (-4 degrees F) to 50 degrees C (122 degrees F).

The operating temperature for an XtremIO X2 cluster is specified as 5 degrees C (41 degrees F) to 40 degrees C (104 degrees F). The nonoperating temperature for an XtremIO X2 cluster is specified as -20 degrees C (-4 degrees F) to 50 degrees C (122 degrees F).

A cluster operating outside this range may not function properly and can, in extreme cases, result in permanent damage.

A sensor on the front panel of each Storage Controller monitors the Storage Controller temperature.

In addition to the sensor on the front panel of each Storage Controller, each Power Supply Unit (PSU) monitors the temperature. A PSU fails if its temperature is higher than the PSU component threshold. The threshold for the PSU is higher than the threshold of the front panel.
The relevant Sensor-Name is Front Panel Temp. Use the xmcli command show-storage-controllers-sensors sensor-type=temperature to display the current front panel temperature.

For versions 4.0.10 and later, the following behavior exists:
When cluster front panel temperature is more than 45 degrees C (113 degrees F) for more than one minute, the following are the possible consequent actions:

  1. The cluster shuts down if the temperature of 45 degrees C (113 degrees F) or more is detected in two or more Storage Controllers or if the high temperature condition is detected in 50% or more of the Storage Controllers.
  2.  Storage Controller Fail-Over occurs if the temperature of 45 degrees C (113 degrees F) is detected in only a single Storage Controller. If all other Storage Controllers are active, then the cluster continues to be active except for the specific Storage Controller.

The cluster continues to monitor the temperature. If the front panel temperature is 42 degrees C (107.6 degrees F) or lower, a deactivated Storage Controller reactivates automatically.

It is possible for Dell Technical Support to modify the front panel temperature thresholds and to disable the consequent action feature.

Also:

  1. If the ambient temperature is higher than 40 degrees C (104 degrees F) for an extended period of time, the X1 Cluster's BBU may fail and require replacement. Elevated temperatures also greatly reduce the life span of the BBU.
  2. If the ambient temperature for an operating storage controller is more than 45 degrees C (113 degrees F), substantial damage to the storage controller may occur. Escalate cases to Dell Technical Support. When contacting Dell Technical Support for assistance, ensure that you have a fresh XtremIO log bundle available for attachment to the Service Request (SR) to expedite the review process. To collect an XtremIO log bundle, follow the instructions in article XtremIO: How to collect an XtremIO log bundle for analysis by Dell Technical Support. Table 1. Associated Symptom Codes
Symptom Code
Description
SR Triggered
XTR404502

Corrective action:
Increases in the recorded temperature in a properly cooled data center may be due to storage controller fan intake obstruction or rack air vent blockage.
