症狀

Affected platforms:

  • Alienware m15 R7
  • Dell G15 5520
  • Dell G15 5521 Special Edition

Extended monitors may not display when the user hot-plugs DP or HDMI over a Type-C port with PEG Mode enabled in the BIOS.

Steps to Duplicate:

  • Boot to the BIOS Setup menu during startup by pressing the F2 key on the keyboard.
  • Select the Display page and disable Hybrid graphics.
  • Switch to PEG mode.
  • Click Apply changes and exit the BIOS.
  • Boot to the operating system and plug-in the extended monitor over a Type-C port.
  • Observe the extended monitor, it turns to an empty black screen.

原因

Because the Type-C port is connected to iGPU, iGPU moves to sleep mode if switching to PEG mode.

解析度

This is working as designed.

End users cannot output to an external display correctly if changing to PEG Mode. There are a few options available below to enable the display if the end user would like to use PEG mode instead of iGPU Mode:

Do one of the following:

  • Click scan for hardware changes button in the Device manager.
  • Switch the display mode by the hotkey (Win + P) or over graphic UI.
  • Restart the computer with extended monitor connected.
  • Connect the extended monitor before turning on the computer (avoid hot-plugging).
