Removing the heat sink assembly

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer .
  2. Remove the:
    1. battery cover

    2. battery

    3. base cover

    4. hard drive

    5. keyboard

    6. palmrest

  3. Perform the following steps as shown in the illustration:
    1. Disconnect the heat sink fan cables [1, 2] .
    2. Loosen the captive screws that secure the heat sink assembly to the computer.
      • NOTE: Loosen the screws based on the numbering on the heat sink.
    3. Lift up and remove the heat sink assembly away from the computer [3].
    4. Peel off the tape on the heat pipe.
