Since the introduction of Clustered VMDK on VMFS datastores, applications like Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) no longer require Raw Device Mappings (RDMs) to use SCSI‑3 persistent reservations (SCSI3‑PR). Because of this, Broadcom does not offer RDM support for the NVMeoF protocol. Customers using RDMs with the SDC who want to move to NVMe/TCP must convert those disks to VMDKs on a VMFS datastore with the Clustered VMDK property. This conversion cannot be done with Storage vMotion, so applications such as WSFC will incur downtime.
This KB explains how to perform the WSFC conversion at a high-level. It also covers converting an Oracle RAC environment from RDMs to shared VMDKs on NVMe/TCP, even though Oracle RAC does not require SCSI3‑PR. Oracle RAC can run on an SDC‑based VMFS datastore, but because PowerFlex does not support Clustered VMDK on SDC‑based VMFS, SCSI3‑PR‑dependent applications cannot use that configuration. Oracle RAC explanations are also high-level.

PowerFlex CLI (SCLI or Command-Line Interface) is installed as part of the (Meta Data Manager (MDM) component. The PowerFlex CLI is used for users who want to use commands in scripts for automating routine tasks. Logging into SCLI uses a Mutual Transport Layer Security (mTLS) certificate-based login. By default, the certificate used to authenticate is the /opt/emc/scaleio/mdm/cfg/mgmt_ca.pem file. Unlike PowerFlex 3.x, the username and password is the same as the PowerFlex Management Platform (PFMP) WEB UI.

This article explains when it is safe to ignore PowerFlex UI non-compliance when hardware component updates are necessary. The compliance flag in PFxM is a best-practice target matrix. If support and engineering guide the customer community to update hardware to fix issues in the field, such as stated in a KB article, Dell Technical Advisory (DTA), or Dell Security Advisory (DSA), deviation is allowed, supported, and acceptable.
