How to replace the Processor on a Alienware Area-51 AAT2265

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Processor and a Alienware Area51 AAT2265 1. The procedure will also include removing the Top Fan Filter, Left Cover, Top Cover, Processor Liquid Cooling Assembly and reinstalling them.

Removal

Top Fan Filter

1. Identify the top fan filter highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the captive screw that secures the top fan filter to the chassis.
3. Pull the top fan filter from the top cover.

Left Cover

1. Identify the left cover highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screw that secures the knob to the chassis.
3. Rotate the knob clockwise to unlock it.
4. Press the release button on the left side of the chassis.
5. Lift the left cover from the chassis.
6. Position the computer on its side as shown in the video.

Top Cover

1. Identify the top cover highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screws that secure the top cover to the chassis.
3. Slide and lift the top cover from the chassis.

Processor Liquid Cooling Assembly

1. Identify the processor liquid cooling assembly highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screws that secure the top fan assembly to the chassis.
3. Disconnect the top fan assembly cables from the system board.
4. Remove the top fan assembly cables from the securing clip on the chassis.
5. Disconnect the processor liquid cooling assembly cables from the system board.
6. Loosen the captive screws that secure the processor liquid cooling assembly to the system board. Loosen them in reverse order.
7. Remove the top fan assembly, the processor liquid cooling assembly, and the cables from the chassis.
8. Use the alcohol pad to clean the heatsink (as shown in the video).

Processor

1. Identify the processor highlighted in blue.
2. Press down and push the release lever from the processor to release it from the securing tab, then extend the release lever completely.
3. Lift the processor cover upward to open it.
4. Remove the processor from the processor socket.

Install

Processor

1. Identify the processor location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the notches on the processor with the tabs on the socket and place it onto the socket.
3. Close the processor cover to secure the processor.
4. Push the release lever down and place it under the tab on the processor cover.

Processor Liquid Cooling Assembly

1. Identify the processor liquid cooling assembly location highlighted in blue.
2. Apply the paste or pad included with the heat sink. Apply it in a spiral pattern.
3. Insert the top fan assembly, the processor liquid cooling assembly, and the cables into the chassis.
4. Tighten the captive screws that secure the processor liquid cooling assembly to the system board. Tighten them in order.
5. Connect the processor liquid cooling assembly cables to the system board.
6. Insert the top fan assembly cables into the securing clip to secure them.
7. Connect the top fan assembly cables to the system board.
8. Install the screws that secure the top fan assembly to the chassis.

Top Cover

1. Identify the top cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the top cover with the chassis and slide it until it clicks into place.
3. Install the screws that secure the top cover to the chassis.

Left Cover

1. Position the computer on its side as shown in the video.
2. Identify the left cover location highlighted in blue.
3. Align the tabs at the bottom and tilt the left cover toward the computer until it clicks into place.
4. Turn the knob counterclockwise until it locks.
5. Install the screw that secures the knob to the chassis.

Top Fan Filter

1. Identify the top fan filter location highlighted in blue.
2. Insert the top fan filter into the slot on the top cover.
3. Tighten the captive screw that secures the top fan filter to the chassis.
