How to replace the Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230 on a Precision 3460 Small Form Factor

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230 and a Precision 3460 Small Form Factor. The procedure will also include removing the Side Cover, Graphics Card, Dell Ultra Speed Drive Gen3 Card (2280) and reinstalling them.

Removal

Side Cover

Identify the side cover highlighted in blue.

Slide the release latch until your hear a click.

Slide the side cover towards the back of the computer and lift it from the system.

Graphics Card

Identify the graphics card highlighted in blue.

Using the tab, lift and open the PCIe door.

Press down on the release tab and lift the graphics card off the system board.

Dell Ultra Speed Drive Gen3 Card (2280)

Identify the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card highlighted in blue.

Pull the tab to open the PCIe door.

Lift the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card off the system board.

Turn the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card over.

Remove the screw that secures the SSD to the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card.

Turn the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card over.

Lift the SSD and remove the standoff nut from the SSD.

Remove the SSD from the slot on the ultra speed drive gen3 card.

Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230

Identify the solid state drive (SSD) highlighted in blue.

Remove the screw that secures the SSD to the system board.

Slide and lift the solid state drive from the SSD slot on the system board.

Install

Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230

Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.

Align the notch with the tab and slide the SSD into the connector.

Install the screw that secure the SSD to the system board.

Dell Ultra Speed Drive Gen3 Card (2280)

Identify the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card location highlighted in blue.

Align the notch with the tab and slide the SSD into the connector.

Install the standoff nut on the SSD.

Turn the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card over.

Install the screw that secures the SSD to the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card.

Turn the dell ultra speed drive gen3 card over.

Using the alignment post on the PCIe slot, insert the card into its connector and press down firmly.

Close the PCIe door.

Graphics Card

Identify the graphics card location highlighted in blue.

Align the graphics card with the connector on the system board.

Using the alignment post on the PCIe slot, connect the card in the connector and press down firmly.

Close the PCIe door to secure the graphics card in the slot.

Side Cover

Identify the side cover location highlighted in blue.

Slide the side cover towards the front of the computer until you hear the release latch click.
