Dell PowerEdge VRTX Enclosure Owner's Manual

Troubleshooting cooling problems

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that are shipped with your product.

Ensure that the following conditions exist:

  • System cover, cooling shroud, hard drive blank(s), server module blank(s), power supply unit blank(s), or expansion card filler bracket(s) is not removed.
  • Ambient temperature is not too high.
  • External airflow is not obstructed.
NOTE: To maintain optimum thermal conditions, ensure that there are no obstructions to airflow on the front and back of the enclosure. The front and back of the enclosure must have at least 30 cm (12-inches) and 61 cm (24-inches) of unobstructed space respectively.
  • A blower module is not removed or has not failed.
  • A cooling fan is not removed or has not failed.
  • The expansion card installation guidelines are followed.
