Removing a power supply unit

Prerequisites

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that are shipped with your product.
NOTE: The power supply units (PSUs) are hot-swappable. Remove and replace only one PSU at a time in a system that is turned on.
NOTE: In systems that ship with the wheel assembly, a power cable retention bracket is used to route the power cable from the PSU
NOTE: To switch to a new PSU rated output capacity, generation, or input voltage, you must first power down the chassis before changing the PSU configuration.

Steps

  1. Disconnect the power cable from the power source and the PSU you intend to remove.
    1. In systems without the wheel assembly installed, remove the power cable from the cable strap.
    2. In systems with the wheel assembly installed, remove the power cable from the power cable retention bracket slot.
  2. Press the release latch and slide the PSU out of the chassis.
