Area-51 R2, Titan X repaste, new pads
Purchased March 2016 =
i7-5820K 3.30GHz/Turbo Boost to 3.80GHz
32GB DDR4 2133MHz (4x8GB Samsung)
128GB SSD/2TB SATA
Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB GDDR5 Hynix
AWCC 4.8.25
D3218HN FullHD 1920x1080 60Hz
The Titan X power limit is 100%, temperature limit is 83°C. I play 1st person shooters (Dead Island 1/2/3, Doom Eternal, Shadow Warrior 1/2/3, Duke Nukem Forever, Left4Dead 1/2, Wolfenstein New Order, The New Colossus).
In the six years, all I have ever manually updated as far as drivers is the Nvidia driver. I have ignored all BIOS updates that "only" addressed the over exaggerated Intel Security Advisory!
GPU temperatures on desktop 45°C. In games after 1 hour around 75°C.
I went to YouTube and watched a couple videos on Titan X disassemble and went for it. I think there were about 20 screws. Once disassembled, the GPU paste and thermal pads were dry and flaky. Cleaned it all up, applied new thermal paste and pads. GPU temperatures on desktop 37°C. In games after 1 hour around 65°C.
