Aurora R10, CPU fan error after Kraken 120 install

Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10

Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10

Hey, I installed a Kraken 120 water cooler in my Aurora R10. But I am now getting a CPU Fan error on startup. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Make sure to remove all that old thermal paste before you apply a new layer.

It's also a good idea to use a small amount in the center and let the pressure spread it out. There's different methods to apply it, but I prefer the center method.

Be also careful with that arctic silver as it should be kept away from traces and other electrically related components as it is slightly capacitive.

I just realized that for the Y slitter (for the fans), one of the pins is missing. Is that normal?thumbnail_PHOTO-2022-11-15-10-21-45.jpg

Yes I wiped away all the thermal paste from the wires, processor, etc. I disinfected a plastic playing card and spread it around like butter on toast. About a pea size. Mounted back everything and these are the results.

  • On idle, my temps are around 44 (sometimes spiking to 54 degrees.
  • Surfing chrome, it stays around 48 degrees.
  • When rendering from after effects my temp stays around 81 degrees.
  • When running unreal engine 5, it's about 68-72.

No BSOD yet. I will download something intensive like cyberpunk and see if I get any BSOD. I'm thinking that maybe the Kraken may be faulty. Hoping I don't have to invest in a different water cooler.

The fans appear to be installed correctly. Did you use the AMD mounting bracket for the AIO water block . . . because that looks a lot like the Intel bracket in your photo.

No....... I didn't install it. I just placed the four screws into the motherboard.................... I am trying to find a Tutorial video on how I should do this. Do I need to install anything behind the motherboard?

I think I am missing some parts, cause from the picture you posted, there are supposed to be 2 brackets on each side for those u brackets to install. Pic below shows all the parts remaining in the box

Just keep working it . . . spread the paste like you did previously and slowly tighten down the block using a cross pattern, just a little bit at a time so the block mounts evenly.

No, that was my mistake. I forgot that the Aurora R10 AMD processor uses the Intel mounting configuration. I think you have the correct mounting bracket.

I think I will just do a case migration. Buy a new Mobo and case. Is it possible to salvage the Powersupply?

Now that I recall, the Alienware Aurora R10 AMD processor actually has Intel mounting configuration. So you probably have the correct bracket. You may not be getting good contact between the IHS and your water block, which would explain the high temperatures. You should not need to install a backplate behind the motherboard.

Any suggestions?

One cable should have 4 pins, one cable should have 3 pins.

Yes, the PSU is standard ATX format . . . but some cables are pretty short. You may need cable extensions, depending on the size and configuration of the case you get. What cases & mobo are you considering?

Not sure, any recommendations? Do you think I should just bite the bullet and see if the h60 works better?

It is your call as to which bullet you want to bite. If you want to try the H60, try to find the H60 (2018) version, although that is not absolutely required.

If you want to migrate to a new case, since you live in a warm climate and air flow would be a premium, perhaps consider an open case concept for easier building and maximum air flow.
