Aurora R10, memory upgrade
Hi, I have ordered a R10 with the 3700x, RTX 2070 super and 16GB of RAM. If I remember correctly it’s the hyperX fury 2666Mhz.
Since I’ll be doing video editing I wanted to get the 32GB 3200Mhz but the cost of doing so on the Dell website was significantly more than ordering the same RAM on Amazon...
I would like to order the RAM and I’m wondering if any 2X16GB 3200Mhx XMP kit work? Orb do you have recommendations for this Ryzen system? I found a couple of list for the other R systems but not specific to this motherboard so I would assume what is recommended/tested would be different.
And if that matters in your answer I actually don’t do much gaming at the moment but mainly video editing. I’m thinking 32GB would be enough for now but might consider getting another 32GB of the same memory later if needed. I had a look at the manual and it seems 4x16GB XMP would work.

Lol the problem is r10 doesn’t run 3200, I put it oc2 and auto at Corsair vengeance 64gb, only boots at 2133....
oc1 just keep reboot failed......
I tried the g skill and it does the same result......only 2133 or oc1 failed
i don’t even know what’s the problem
The bios is 1.0.7.

@k41 I ended up getting the 32GB version kit of the G.Skills that you used. I'm stable at 3200, but my timing increased to 22-24-24-56 despite manually configuring 16-18-18-38 in the BIOS. Just curious, if you're seeing the same thing or are you actually able to get 16-18-18-38 at 3200?
I've got Ryzen 3700X and 5700XT if that matters.

I’m running the Corsair at 3200 on oc1 with no beeps on warm or cold boot, but it HAS to be the memory made for AMD specifically. The generic XMP Intel version of the memory was unstable in the oc1 configuration and got the beeps. Also running the 1.0.7 BIOS and had previously run with 1.0.2 and no problems. See my previous post for more details and the exact model number of the memory I’m using.

I spoke with a most helpful person at Dell tech support who demystified for me how to track down and order the same memory that Dell sells with its systems. Since I am interested in 3200 MHz memory, I'll use it to illustrate. The N205T is the Dell part number
N205T 16GB Fury HyperX XMP DDR4, 3200MHz, 2GX64, Unbuffered, 288 pin, Dual Rank, 1.25V, Non-ECC, Kingston XN205T-MIE/XN205T-MIE2
Unfortunately, Dell doesn't make it easiest for its users, and won't tell you the Kingston/HyperX part number. However, I'm told that Amazon, is aware of Dell part numbers.
When I search for N205T 3200MHz or Amazon, I'm offered memory from several makers, including HyperX Fury in various kits and sizes, all of which have a HyperX manufacturer designation: HX432C16FB3K2/32.
The prefix is the same, and here, K2/32 means a kit of 2x16 = 32GB. Currently $142
The tech person said the BIOS won't allow overclocking memory to higher speeds than 3200MHz. Dell recommends running with 1, 2 or 4 sticks. System will operate with some possible performance degradation when run with 3 sticks.
Tech person also reported that BIOS will permit 2x32GB or 4x16GB, but not 4x32GB. 64GB is the ceiling on memory.
I asked him about @MobileGuru's test of Corsair Vengeance.
https://www.dell.com/community/Alienware-Desktops/Aurora-R10-memory-upgrade/m-p/7671611#M31255
He said it was plausible to him that AMD would outperform the XMP variant. @MobileGuru tested 2x16GB, and he thought it likely that 4x16GB would also be good, but that is not an official Dell opinion as Corsair hasn't been tested. He warns that whatever the memory that my system comes with, I should be prepared to go into the BIOS and set the memory to overclock at 3200MHz in the Advanced Performance tab.
I'm a refugee from the Mac world where memory selection is simpler. Hope this post is helpful to other newbies.

The memory I got was from Amazon as posted by a previous member. It is: HyperX Fury 32GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL16 DIMM (Kit of 2) Black XMP Desktop Memory HX432C16FB3K2/32
Performs (or doesn't) almost exactly like everyone elses. I've done the manual input on custom, that gives me 3200 but real high timings.. OC 1 3200 until reboot then default, 0C 2 2933 until reboot then default. Auto setting is 2400.. What the heck am i doing wrong? so sick of this.
Bios is the July 15th 1.0.7... Says there is an Aug 5th one, but when i download that, it is July 15th 2020.
Ryzen 3700x
Any ideas at all please, im begging. I just want my 32 gb.. heck, i dont care if its 2933 at this point.

You are not alone, the MB doesn’t like 1.35v memory voltage and your better buy the OEM memory at higher speed from eBay... from other people who pulled the ram off their systems.

Big thanks to @neo12 who pointed out the settings in the customization are in hexadecimal format. I've been entering the settings as decimal 16h, 18h, 38h instead of 10h, 12h, 26h. After setting in correct hex numbers, I'm getting much better timing at 3200. However, still only getting 18 CL vs the advertised 16 CL. I think I will try the Corsairs at this point.
10h = 16 decimal
12h = 18 decimal
26h = 38 decimal

Hi,
I have the Dell supplied HyperX Fury DDR4 3200MHz memory in my Aurora R10. I have 2 x 8Gb sticks in slots 2 & 4 (dual channel config).
I have been reading and comparing the data from this thread.
I am wondering why the Dell supplied memory has CL20! Did Dell just short changed me and gave me the slowest memory from their pool. The CL20 values which I have seems much slower than any other brands of sticks that was purchased from other than Dell. Can anyone help explain if I should have purchased/upgraded the memory myself?
Now that I am stuck with presumably slow memory, should I manually perform memory overclocking optimization iterations and manually enter the derived values in BIOS settings --> Custom. Currently I am set to OC2 in BIOS. (BIOS version 1.07).
Thanks for any advice.

Confirming that the Crucial Ballistix worked flawlessly as suggested by @_bootleg.cuh. Just had to change the XMP profile in the BIOS to OC1 and got 3200mhz at 1.35V, 16, 18, 18, 36.
Here's the link again: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083TRRT16/.

Just added some more memory to my R10. ( after getting the newest firmware and chipset driver)
The R10 came with the fury xn205T-hyd2 standard.I noticed that a lot of owners have problem getting some memory upgrade that will actually work. So I gambled a bit and I bought a fury kit 2*16gig that actually installed plug&play with no bios adjustments. (lat 17.18.16.16.) and a correct voltage of 1.35v. Tested them and found so far no glitches.Used them with a heavy computing software cpu running all16 cores.Running with the xn205T-hyd2.
This is description from the vendor site:
HyperX® FURY DDR4 provides a powerful performance boost for gaming, video editing, and rendering with speeds up to 3200MHz. This cost-effective upgrade is available in 2400MHz-3733MHz speeds, CL15-19 latencies, single module capacities of 4GB-32GB, and kit capacities of 16GB-128GB. It features Plug N Play1 automatic overclocking at 2400MHz and 3200MHz speeds and is both Intel XMP-ready and Ready for AMD Ryzen. HyperX FURY DDR4 stays cool with its stylish, low-profile heat spreader. 100% tested at speed and backed by a lifetime warranty, it's an easy, worry-free upgrade for your Intel® or AMD-based system.
HyperX® HX432C16FB4K2/32 is a kit of two 2G x 64-bit (16GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) 2Rx8, memory module, based on eight 2G x 8-bit FBGA components per module. Total kit capacity is 32GB. Each module kit supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profiles (Intel® XMP) 2.0. Each module has been tested to run at DDR4-3200 at a low latency timing of 16-20-20 at 1.35V.
Auto overclocks up to 3200MHz1
Updated low-profile heat spreader design
Cost-efficient, high-performance DDR4 upgrade
Intel® XMP-ready profiles optimized for Intel's latest chipsets
Ready for AMD Ryzen™
Stylish low profile heatspreader featuring signature FURY asymmetrical design
Plug N Play functionality at 2400MHz and 3200MHz1
HX432C16FB4K2/32 My understanding is that this is revision #4 and they work and sold at a very reasonable price kit (160$ cad)
So now I have 64GB @ 3200 MHz

I agree. I was pretty happy with Alienware in my first machine, but this memory mess has gotten me telling anyone who asks if the Alienware machine is a good deal about the problems I've had. Alienware support is also horrible, nobody there ever wants to solve a problem, they just tell you to buy their 2x more expensive RAM...
Next machine will be hand-built like before. I'm sticking with Apple for prebuilt from now on.

I wish I had gotten that tech person...none of the people I talked with were anywhere close to that helpful.

Update on this. If I leave my machine running or going into sleep mode it is fine and never has issues.
But if I ever turn it off, it loses all settings and does the boot-3-times and loses all settings.
This is super annoying.
Of course what makes it much more annoying is that my kids have built their own machines for less than this Dell thing and they have virtually no issues at all - with the exact same hardware configuration.
So much for prebuilt ease of use!

Hopefully I have the same luck as @DN10 with the crucial x. I ordered the exact same from Amazon and will have them tomorrow. I will report back
