Aurora R13, no XMP!

XMP profiles are totally missing in the Aurora R13. Disabled in the BIOS and disabled in the AWCC. 

XMP 3.0 is one of the major features of 12th gen Alder Lake. Why is Dell locking it? Yes people will say Intel spec say that RAM in dual channel mode will run at 4400, but the same goes for CPU overclocking and GPU overclocking they too have suggested specs, speeds, and voltages yet they are overclockable. 

Even sillier let's say we're content with 4400, we can't even attempt to change the RAM timings by getting higher spec ram and underclocking it. 

DDR5 comes with all that is needed for overclocking on the RAM itself. Enabling it in the BIOS should not be a daunting task for DELL and yet we're stuck like previous gen with very basic RAM speeds. Worse yet not even manual overclocking, which can seemingly be done on the Aurora R14 and to good success.  

I hope more people contact support about this to make Dell know it's something the Aurora R13 community wants to future proof their machines. After all, they advertised the Aurora R13 as "We listened" and we made it "Upgradable" and yet still it's custom shaped MOBO and custom shaped PSU. At least let us do an upgrade via software where possible without crippling the machine!

R8, R19 and R12 had XMP enabled ... albait didn't support very high speeds ... it would be baffling if they design their mobo not to support XMP 3.0 when they say they designed in collab with intel who were advertising XMP 3 as a major feature

Only Dell would be able to provide an answer on this, but it is likely a design choice they made, similar to not providing gear mode 1/2 selection on the previous generation Intel systems was a design choice.

It's not locked, it's not missing. The ram modules are 4400mhz modules and have NO XMP profiles. They are bare bones. Buy XMP ram if you want XMP ram but don't claim like Dell is locking you out of XMP. Dual channel base is 4400mhz

Not interesting, R14 is Ryzen with the same DDR4 modules they ship with the R10. Dells 4400mhz DDR5 are barebones and do not contain XMP profiles hence no XMP options

4400mhz is NOT a DDR5 Standard, all DDR5 Module installed in R13 is 4800mhz module

Yea, I really have to agree with you.  You just can't predict how Dell will or HP will "short" the system.

It is interesting to me because Dell by design has limited their systems again.  In general DDR5 memory has XMP 3.0 profiles (up to 5 memory profiles).  It's a curious thing because Dell isn't using them.  And just like that a customer familiar with Dell's past systems discovers they've changed the rules again.  Here's some info on DDR5 if you're interested.

The Ram that come with the system are actually rated at 4800, i bought a ram Rated at 6000 at it defautled to 4400 ... not sure why the attitude! 

Dell have hidden behind Intel guidelines with the gear 1 and gear 2 debacle with the r12 and i bet they would do it again with the r13 XMP ... even though intel advertised XMP 3.0 as being a major feature.

Per Intels table

"If the motherboard has two memory slots total, then the maximum support is DDR5-4800 in any configuration.
If the motherboard has four memory slots total, then the maximum support is DDR5-4400 when two slots are filled with any memory.
If all four memory slots are filled, single rank memory will support up to DDR5-4000.
If all four memory slots are filled, dual-rank memory will support up to DDR5-3600"

 Dell does not supply DDR5 ram with XMP profiles, does NOT matter what you believe they should run at. They list them as 4400mhz on Dells site for the specific reason that they adhere to base Intel configuration as they have always done for years.

Pretty obvious they follow Intels DDR5 standard base config as all Dual rank are 4400mhz and the only 4 slot config they offer is 3600mhz. These are barebones RAM kits they have no XMP profiles built in because they only care to adhere to the base Intel specs. If you want XMP you'll have to buy your own DDR5 kits and pray they even boot

4800mhz is base JDEC DDR5, they are 4800mhz because single rank inte spec is 4800, they revert to 4400mhz in dual rank just like advertised and down to 3600mhz in quad just like is also shown on Dells site. It's not hiding it's clearly shown

 

dell boards have strict limits on voltages. You can't buy whatever kit you want and throw it in, wait for testing. Someone will find kits that work the way you want. But don't expect 6000mhz. R12 barely worked with 3600mhz ram and that's just a 200mhz jump from the base kit

Kinda depressing to be honest.  This is my first prebuilt desktop in 21 years.  I let the hype get to me.  That video from Jonathan Troller about how they listened and wanted to do something for the gamers, well, ya got me.  

I'm glad that the support team has been pretty good with responding and helping get everything working properly in the system.  I'll give that a plus.  Still depressed that this $3800 machine is so limited.

The only difference the r13 design provides as opposed to the r12 is a more space for upgrading the gpu and better cooling non of what they said about upgradability of the system and having listened actually materialized.
