Aurora R7, temps

Hello,

I was wondering what is a good temp for a GPU and cpu to be while gaming. I have a alienware Aurora r7, and the only way i usually check the temps is if i click the arrow on my taskbar and there is a setting that says thermal controller. While gaming, i think my temps may be getting high. When I play fortnite, my GPU sensor says 82C, and my cpu temp says about 50-60C. Its only those that get high, my hdd sensor stays at like 23C and my pci sensor stays low as well. Is this too hot, or is there a way I can lower them? Is my PC too dusty? It does not look dusty though and i can only see a little dust inside if I look closely with a flashlight, but no dust i can see when flashlight is off. I do not know what to do to lower my temps. Is there a better app I can use to look at temps for Alienware, and should I be worried about the temps? My pc isnt that loud and it seems to be running fine performance wise.

please let me know if I should clean it, or a way to lower the temps or something like that. I have a GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card.

Thanks

cpu 50-60C not bad and gpu 80+ C during gaming is borderline.  what is the exact make and model of your 1080?  how old is the card?

1080 has a TDP of 180W.  Nvidia 1080 gaming temp benchmark is 80C at hot spot. so your gpu temp is not too far from reference.  https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-pascal,4572-11.html

1080 Founder edition load temp 80-85C. Aftermarket model load temp 65-75C.  https://www.quora.com/What-temperature-does-your-GTX-1080-typically-reach-while-gaming

R7 case is considered SFF by some, so cooling may not be the best, but doubt the light dust has much to do w it.   if your chassis interior temp is not high, it seems your chassis fans are working fine.

I believe I have a GeForce GTX 1080, how would I check later, my pc is about a year and half old. It’s only fortnite that gets bad while gaming I believe. It seems fine performance wise, and it doesn’t get too loud. When I open my window and let people my room get colder, my GPU sensor goes down to 74C or 75C. Is there like a setting I can use to lower it or something simple? I don’t know what but maybe you can throw some ideas out there.

post a pic of your card.  they are all Geforce GTX 1080 but different vendors have different cooling design and control. Founder edition by Nvidia has all metal case. Founder Edition  If it is Dell oem it may look like this one.  dell oem 1080 both are single fan blower type.

If gpu is open air w multiple fans, vendor may provide app to adjust fan settings.

community reference: "the Alienware Command Center and/or the Thermal Controller sub-app DOES NOT control the fans or thermals on the video card. It simply monitors it."

@RyanK39 :

I recommend you install some monitoring programs to gather some useful statistics while gaming. MSI Afterburner, together with the Rivatuner API is very powerful but has a bit of a learning curve to it. AMD cards have Radeon software that allows for the monitoring but I can't seem to find those options for NVIDIA. FYI, I have 2 rigs, one with AMD, another with NVIDIA.

Once you're able to get some monitoring software up and running, preferably in overlay mode, you can see how much the GPU is utilized, what is the GPU fan speed, and most importantly, how much power (W) the GPU is burning. That said, I agree with @redxps630 that 80C is about where you'd see 1080 is while under load for gaming.

I thought, @r72019 and @Anonymous used to have Dell OEM 1080 once upon a time.

on My home screen, my cpu sensor is at 35C and my GPU sensor is at 51C. My GPU fan #1 is at 35% and my cpu fan is at 100 percent. Is that dangerous for the cpu fan to be that high? Also I think I’m gonna lower my fortnite frames from 165 to 144 to match my monitor, and I read that vsync can help with frames and so can gsync, is that true?

there is a pic of AWCC from community. https://www.dell.com/community/Alienware-Desktops/Aurora-R7-AWCC-CPU-pump-failure/td-p/6185247/page/2
Tesla confirmed @Anonymous is correct.  “cpu fan” is liquid pump rpm.  “top fan” is radiator fan.

Yeah I have liquid cooling and the idle temps are kinda high for some reason. But what is AWCC? @Anonymous @GTS81 @redxps630

For liquid cooled system, AWCC software CPU-FAN is the motherboard's PUMP_FAN header which is the header where the pump connector goes to.

I was assuming when you said "home screen" that you were referring to Alienware Command Center from Dell.

I’m pretty sure i turned on gsync and vsync, and it didnt really help too much it seems like. I also lowered my frames to 144fps to match my monitor. I saw something about downclocking or underclockign a gpu but that sound scary and a idk if I would be able to do that. I dont know what else to do at this point.

C012A382-6B4A-4935-B9C9-36450929DB7B.jpegThis is when I’m in the lobby screen in fortnite, and when i actually play it and i check, the gpu sensor goes higher to like 77C and sometimes higher, i turned on gsync and vsync and lowered frames and it didnt seem to do much. Even when I’m at my home screen the gpu sensor sometimes is at 50C. Also is it bad for the cpu fan to be at 100%?

community reference (Tesla): System Health/ Fans / CPU-FAN is actually the impeller-RPM of Asetek Liquid Cooler pump
- Pump Impeller RPM is constant/fixed and should be between 5280-5350 RPM

so your pump rpm at 5212 as shown is within normal limit. 100% cpu fan is normal.  the pump is supposed to stay at more or less the same rpm with only slight fluctuation.

Ok, my GPU fan is weird. When I’m in the lobby for a game like fortnite, the temp is at like 60C, and sometimes when I’m in the game it will be at like 66C, and then it goes to like 80C sometimes it’s weird, and I hate seeing it at 80c I don’t know if it was ever like that before.
idk if I did something wrong with settings, but I have vsync and gsync on and it hasn’t changed it much. I never had those on before and it was always fine, but vsync is so bad.

So if I increase the fan speed somehow, will that allow more air flow to my pc and make my GPU temp go down? Cuz when I’m gaming my GPU fan stays at like 40 or 50 percent and my front fan is usually at 20 percent. Also does gsync or vsync have anything to do with better GPU temp? Or any Nvidia control panel settings that will make it better?
