Aurora R8, memory upgrade?
Are you kidding me? If I want to upgrade my memory, I have to buy it from Dell? For the amount of money charged, I should be able to install anything I want on it. This ugly expensive PC is going back TODAY!

please chill , ok.
what size sticks, and how many>?
? and lay blame last after facts are known. 1st.
and let me guess you want the fastest memory on earth for say $15 , good luck with that dream.
IDK
all top makers sell this, corsair, and Kingston. (and is high end memory for a high end PC , sure)
ask them too, learn to find the top makers and ask them.
this what you want , google it , win the price war.. $43 each I see 1st hit.
8GB DDR4 PC4-21300 2666MHz DIMM NON-ECC Unbuffered 288pin 1.2V CL15 Single-rank
shop around then learn what the street price is, and it will not be cheap

What I want is a computer that allows me to upgrade using the parts that I prefer. NOT the proprietary parts that they designate. What I bought was 32GB of HyperX Fury DDR4-2666. And upon installation, the only thing that worked was the fans.

Welcome to the Dell Community @DunaTyphon
Did you install:
1x32GB
2x16GB
4x8GB
Configurations supported
Sorry but the Aurora R8 does not require proprietary memory.
Most people use and recommend Crucial !!!

I use 64gb of Hyper x fury ram at 2933 xmp. It's compatible, just not in combination with the oem stuff.

DunaTyphon,
You can try to install anything you want. You obviously have no idea what you are doing. Instead of coming here to complain, you should have researched your pc first.
Dell has always used OEM (original equipment manufacturer) customized hardware purchased from the manufacturer. Everyone knows this!

I bought my R8 a couple of months ago, and I had several issues with the memory as well. I got Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666Mhz. I made sure i got same type and speed, but had issues regardless. The board takes up to 64 gb and had 16 already installed so I added 2x16 modules but the compatibility issue.

I'm using G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200Mhz DIMM CAS 16 F4-3200C16D-32GTZR
then I just installed another pair 32GB.
now I have 64GB, they work perfectly on my computer.

I just got an Aurora R8 few weeks ago with the 16GB Ram (2 x 8GB) of J69DF 8GB HyperX Fury (DDR4,XMP,2933MHz,1Gx64,Unbuffered,Non-ECC,Single Rank,1.35v,288 pin, Kingston XJ69DF-HYA/XJ69DF-MIE).
I was looking to get another 2 x 8GB of the same RAM but discovered its only available via Dell. So instead I will go with the 2 x 16GB of G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200Mhz DIMM CAS 16 F4-3200C16D-32GTZR and eventually upgrade it to 64GB.
I am using G.SKILL in my XPS 15 and had no issues with it.
Thanks!

You dont have to buy from Dell.
I got hyper x fury 2x 16gb sticks separately, not pack because of price from amazon.
Works great left review in my name. I got older version for £10 cheaper per stick, only difference a revised heatsink. Hope it helps

When I look at the service manual it looks like to run 32GB I need to run 2x 16GB sticks and you can't run 4x 8GB sticks. Is this correct? Seems silly if so.

Agreed, that 4x8gb dims should work.
Apparently, older Aurora (R6 ?) couldn’t handle it ... but maybe they fixed it by now ?
