17 R2 - M.2 SSD underperforming?

Hello, I had two SSD's for myself to put into my 17 R2.

A 2.5" Samsung 850 EVO and an M.2 Samsung 850 EVO.

However the M.2 seems to perform at half the speed of the 2.5" even though both samsung EVO's should perform at the same speed.

This made me wonder if I might have set something wrong somewhere or perhaps installed a faulty driver.

Here are the benchmarks I've done on both drives. As you can see my C drive (2.5" 850 EVO) performs as it should, but my M.2 drives seems to perform at half the speed it should.

Is there anything that can explain why the M.2 ports run slower? As I understand it the 17 R2 M.2 ports are SATA, which my M.2 drive is also, but SATA speeds should be able to handle 500 Mb/s read and write, right?

Have you tried all M.2 ports?

i have the sames dics as you, and i have your answer :)

you only need to install samsung magician software from here:

and later you only need to go to BIOS ( when booting your lap press F2) and enable AHCI mode

:)

have a good day :)

hmm, now I have to go benchmark my MX200 which is in the M.2 slot. I moved the OS to it but I don't see an obvious improvement in boot times over the 1TB spinning disk that the OS was on before. I wonder if I need to switch the OS to the other MX200 which is in the 2.5'' bay. I will bench both.

Thanks, I'll try that now!

Yes, that fixed it. Turns out there are both 6gb and 3gb ports and I just had to put it in the right port.

The M.2 performs as it should now. :)

Thanks all for the help and it was the magician software that pointed me in the right direction (and setting AHCI probably was a good idea as well. :P )

Ok, I set it to AHCI (which was pretty roundabout but I figured it out) and it still didnt work but the software you said I should dl says the following:

So I assume I have it in the wrong port. I'll try putting the ssd on the port on the other end and see if that helps. :)
