Add second hard drive to Alienware M17x R4
I currently have a single 750gb hard drive in my system. I want to add the 500gb hard drive that I have in my Inspiron 1545 to the Alienware. Is this okay to do?

Hi Mina919,
We can definitely use Inspiron 1545 hard drive on the Alienware 17xR4. We need hard drive bracket to fix the hard drive in Alienware 17X R4. The form factors of hard drive for both the computers are same.

That's great news!
I just have a couple more possible silly questions, but I want to be sure since the tech on the phone made a point of telling me that if I use that drive, Dell will no longer support my system if something goes wrong. He then insisted that the ac/dc adapter with my system was a 240w when my paperwork says it's a 180w. So I need to be sure.
The 1545 hd is a 500gb 5400rpm, does the speed make a difference in the physical size?
I'm assuming that since the system originally came with 2 drives, the 180w is okay.

The physical size won't make any difference on the speed, the 500gb HDD is going to run at 5400rpm. about the 180W power supply is also fine.

Thanks so much for the reply, I appreciate it.
I noticed your signature says that opening the case and replacing parts myself wouldn't void my warranty but the man at Alienware tech support told me that if I did this (added a Dell hard drive) to my system they wouldn't give me support if I need it.
I'm only using this drive because I kind of got cheated out of 250gb of hard drive space in the first place. I paid for 1tb but wound up with only 750gb's. They told me I could pay more money to buy one that would be supported but I spent enough on this system (besides I've already paid for the drive space I don't have) that I can't afford it. I have the 500gb from another Dell laptop so I have to go with what I have.
But thanks again for the help. I'm sad to say that I think this will be my last Dell computer. :(

What the tech support representative means is that if your system encourages any type of issue related to that specific HDD or any other type of issue that involved the HDD for example, your system is not booting issue or it experiences slow performance, we will request you to remove the HDD from the system and then we will continue troubleshooting the system, but it doesn't mean that by installing that HDD or a third party software on your system you will void the warranty that is not true.

I should probably keep this post in case...He made it sound that there would be no support at all if I installed that drive in my laptop. Thank you for clearing it up.
