Aurora ALX Temps

Quick question on CPU temps. Core i7 960. the machine has been running non stop doing the fresh install of windows and programsafter the SSD swap.HW monitor shows coe temps to be 51, 47, 50 and 46c. This seems warm but i may be wrong? What are you other Aurora owners seeing with the LGA 1366 processors?

Have you tried reapplying the thermal paste on your cpu? cause this is what i have but i did not reapply the thermal paste. They were all stock thermal paste and with stock alienware liquid cooling system.

I had a i7 950 and under a light load I had the same temps. The room temp would be in the 75f area.

I pulled the pump and cleaned both the pump and CPU with carburater cleaner, applied some AS-5 and now idle temps after running much cooler ;-)

I have a 920 and I've never seen temps that low in my computer.  I've noticed the temps have been up close to what the OP was describing and I'm getting ready to clean the inside to see if that helps.   That being said I've never seen my CPU run at as cool as the one above....

This is how i reapply my thermal compound

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- use a towel or thick tissue papers

- apply 70% alcohol solution on either the towel or tissue papers

- clean it til there is no thermal compound left

- then apply a 'O' of thermal compound on the middle of the cpu

- put the heat sink back on

- let the heat sink spread the thermal compound

After that you should run a few benchmarks to allow the thermal compound to 'melt' and it should cover almost the whole cpu

I follow the  AS-5 application instructions for a Core i7 . So now  idle temps 35, 41, 36, 42c Once the AS-5 has been through it's break in period temps may drop a little more.

I'm not overly concerned with my temps other than my Video card and as reported in multiple places the 295 likes to run warm.  Here is another question I'll throughout for Aurora owners.  Where do you keep your fans at percentage wise?  What about your video card fan?

you can't compare different cpu's expecting to see similar temps.

The 980 and 990 will run 10 to 20 degrees cooler than a 920 950 960.

I have a 930 in my Aurora in a relatively warm office environment and my temps are similar to the ones in the first post above.  I searched around at the time I bought the system and they seemed well within the safe range, so I wouldn't worry about it (although it sounds like you knocked them down a bit already).
