What kind of video cable do I need?

Hello,

I just got a brand new Alienware M11x and a Viewsonice 1080p HD monitor. The monitor has a connection for DVI and something else called D-SUB.

My laptop on the otherhand only seems to have an HDMI slot and another kind of slot that looks like a D

The connections of the laptop and monitor don't seem to match one another.

Would you be able to recommend what I need to buy so I can connect the two together?

Thanks!

Crixus

It sounds like you have too choices.  It's a bit hard to tell without visuals but this D-Sub you're talking about should be a straight VGA connection.   Your other choice would be a HDMI to DVI cable connection which would give you HD quality I believe.

Get a DVI to HDMI adapter for the monitor. They only cost a few dollars. Then get an HDMI cable and connect the two. You will get full 1080p HD if you do it this way.
