15 R3, HGST 1TB HDD replacement?

Hiu all,

sorry for the stupid question..

My HGST 7K1000 1Tb HDD has failed - can i replace it with any 2.5HDD?  I cannot find a like replacement anywhere, not available anymore it seems.

Is there a preferred option for replacements?

thanks

Any standard 2.5" 7 mm drive will work just fine.  And there are only three manufacturers of these left:  WD, Toshiba and Seagate.

Choose from the first two (Seagate's recent 2.5" drives have developed a stellar reputation for unreliability).

Any 2.5" SATA drive that physically fits in height will work.

That said, with SSD prices as low as they are, why bother with a hard drive at all?

A 1T 2.5" SATA SSD will be around $100 -- yes, twice or so what a hard drive will cost but much faster.

If you're going for a hard drive, there are just three manufacturers left - WD, Toshiba and Seagate.  I'd choose one of the first two of those.

Hi @bootrossbootross you have a 2016 Dell 15 R3 and the HGST 7K1000 1Tb HDD has failed. A few minutes of internet search says:-

HGST 1TB 16MB 7200RPM SATA Bulk/OEM Hard Drive (0A38016) being sold for $49
HGST 1TB HDD 7.2K RPM 2.5" 6Gb/s SATA Hard Disk Drive Model: HTS721010A9E630 DP/N: 97DYV being sold for $139

Hi,

Yep I am aware of some for sale on ebay - most are refurbs, and none are in my location, I do not want to wait 4 weeks for shipping.  hence I am looking for alternative options.

thanks anyway.

Use a WD blue as they’re pretty reliable for me as mine has lasted me for an entire 7 years and it still is pushing.
