Tried it. Didn't work.

It never occurred to me that the OC controls were built in. I swear I tried it before and just had the AWCC App with no OC controls button.

Regardless, as instructed: Uninstalled AWCC and OC Controls via Revo Uninstaller. Used "Advanced" and deleted all associated files. Restarted, reinstalled AWCC. Restarted (per AWCC install). Opened AWCC, selected OCC controls, and I get the same issue.

I'm using the AWCC installer from Dell.com/support, which is version 4.8.23. Can't find any other versions.

Hey @crimsom

Yeah everything is downloaded to my computer before I run the installers.

So I was curious about having OC controls already in AWCC, because again, I swear when I first loaded AWCC, OC controls weren't in there (I installed OC controls afterwards and expected a completely different program to open up, but was surprised when OC controls opened up AWCC).

Anyway, just in-case, I tested out the following: Installed AWCC, installed OC Controls, ran Revo Uninstaller. Uninstalled OC Controls, advanced clean via Revo and delete all files, restart computer. Uninstalled AWCC, advanced clean via Revo and delete all files, restart computer.

Now, when I install AWCC, the OC Controls button is missing, like the first time I tried.

I opened the reliability monitor, and there are no critical events associated with AWCC. The only critical events I see are associated with Microsoft Register Server at System32\regsvr32.exe with problem event name BEX64.

I'll try messing around more with AWCC and OC controls tomorrow and will see if I get more the same error or not.

I think I'll do another fresh install with a complete SSD clean/format beforehand.

Hey @crimsom

Yeah... that video looks like AWCC version 5.1.27 or some variation of it at least.

Per Dells website at https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000179513/alienware-command-center-quick-guide Fusion only controls OC on version 5.0 and above. And per the same link, my A17 R4 is limited to AWCC 4.8 all it does is power management (e.g. how long before the screen turns off, how long before the system goes to sleep).

I actually did try installing AWCC 5.1.27 on my computer. Surprisingly it did install, but nothing worked.

Yeah @crimsom , I'm aware of the risks.

The only thing I really want OC controls for is fan control. I was planning on using throttlestop and MSI afterburner to undervolt.

Before the first time I did a complete wipe of the SSD, I installed throttlestop and MSI afterburner and did a stable undervolt. I just didn't have access to fan controls. I'm picky about thermals, and want to be able to set a fan curve (fan turbo mode in BIOS seems to just keep the fans on blast).

I have done another complete formant (diskpart clean) and reinstall of Windows 10 Home, this time build 1903. I feel like the actual server that holds the A17 R4 profiles is either down or mislabeled and I can't get the actual download file. I'm hoping someone would be able to give me the actual file so I can try getting OC Controls to work.

If anybody has the default config files for the A17 R4 I still would like to give OC controls a shot. It would be nice to be able to use the OEM software that came with the computer without having to pay Dell for extra warranty. Especially since the software was downloaded from the Dell website.

Have you checked out the BIOS to see what OC options are available in there? I've never owned a 17 R4 so it makes it a little harder to know exactly what you're looking for. I have heard that the OC Control software is buggy and it's best to use the BIOS.

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/alienware-17-laptop/alienware-17-r4-servicemanual/system-setup-options?guid=guid-f8930aa9-e0bc-4de2-868a-adef509b3e63&lang=en-us

Maybe you need to enable one of the Performance Options in the BIOS to get more control. You may also want to try clearing the CMOS settings as it may restore any default OC settings. Can't say I've ever tried it though. You may also want to try updating the BIOS but be careful because once you go to 1.11 you can't go back to previous versions.

Hey @mattyb3

Thanks for the suggestion. In BIOS I've had performance mode enabled without any impact on the OC controls issue. Then I tried enabling turbo fans and and OC level 1, still no impact on the OC controls issue.

From previous posts I've read on the community regarding OC controls and the missing default config profile, some users were able to download the files for the config profile from other users (as opposed to having OC Controls connect to Dell/Alienware servers) and regain OC Controls functionality. I was hoping someone with the config file could send it my way, as Dell Support wants me to pay for additional warranty to even consider helping me.

At the end of the day, I don't need OC Controls, I think it's just a nice-to-have, especially since it's OEM software that's available for download on the Dell.com/support website. I think it's poor form for Dell to offer it on the support website if it's functionally broken. I think it's even poorer form to charge extra warranty to troubleshoot file downloaded from the support website.

The only thing I really want OC controls for is fan control. During previous installs I've tried SpeedFan and MSI Afterburner, and had no luck with fan controls. BIOS Turbo fan makes the noise excessive on idle, I was hoping to make a curved performance-oriented fan profile to assist with my CPU and GPU under-volting. During previous installs running ThrottleStop and MSI Afterburner, I believe I got my system running at 70-85c during gaming/load with undervolting. I was hoping with fans I could decrease Tmax and hotspot max.

Thanks! At the end of the day I got a good deal on this laptop, and it suits its purposes. I'm just disappointed that part of what makes this laptop an Alienware laptop is non-functional. I've never had an Alienware before, and wanted to see what the OEM software had to offer, but I guess unless I buy new or within-warranty, I'll miss out on that experience.

I have the exact same Alienware (Bought in 2017) and I have the same issue after installing a fresh copy of the windows. I used to have the configuration files saved on my computer (In "Appdata") I think. Maybe they removed the files and they don't want us to download them? The Alienware command center and OC controls are really old. They need to be updated or at least the new app from Microsoft store should support it. It's annoying we can't use overclocking from within the windows with OC controls. For me the functionality was there and it was taken away from me after installing a fresh Windows copy. Let me know if you found anything.

I have the same problem after installing a fresh copy of the windows as well. Also I have deleted the partition with the factory image so I can't go back to get them. Can anyone with the stock oc controls share the predefied profiles. Apparently you can find the on this route C:\ProgramData\Alienware\OCControls. I have been looking all over the internet and I can't believe I couldn't find a solution anywhere. Thnaks everyone.
