m15 R6, 1 Blue, 4 Red power button flashes
Hey,
I recently started getting this error on my system. While playing some games, the power button would start flashing blue and red (1 blue 4 red) and the game would start stuttering.
The flashes go away once the charger is removed and the laptop runs normally. Once I connect the charger again, it starts flashing the same.
I thought my charger was broken but the hardware diagnosis states the charger is fine.
After shutting down and letting the laptop sit idle for a while. Powering back up with the charger plugged in, the laptop shows no issues.
What could be the problem here? The diagnosis report shows no issue with any component and everything runs fine. This just happens sometimes randomly. I could not find anything similar online with an official response.
Please help.

Hi @imavichandra welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
Support for Alienware m15 R6 System-diagnostic lights says Diagnostic-light LED code 1,4 = Short in hinge cable tripped OCP2 (display).
If purchased with Dell warranty, click on Contact Technical Support and request replacement hinge cable.
If no Dell warranty, click on $100 Dell Laptop Repair | Dell Repair | Laptop Repair | Notebook Service Center (parts-people.com).

What is the exact model number of your system? That would be required to determine the precise code explanation.

Thank you for your kind response.
Although the manual states an issue with the flex cable, I find it a little strange.I can use the laptop normally even after the power button starts flashing with the pattern. The diagnostics show no issue with the machine. After turning the machine off and powering on after a while, everything is normal again.
It also happens after a 30 min session of gaming, although not always. I just want to make sure this is the right. As my laptop is out of warranty, I want to be a bit careful with what I order.
Thank you so much though.
You seem to have helped a lot of folks on this forum. Your efforts are really appreciated. Sending you a virtual chocolate bar as a thank you for helping so many diagnose issues with their laptop.

All flash codes ahould be in the user guide - head to https://support.dell.com and type in your service tag to find the appropriate guide.
The code will tell you exactly what your laptop thinks the problem is, and from there, people can help you if the solution isn't easy for you to find on your own

Hi @DELL-Chris M searched for Dell Alienware m15 R6 replace hinge cable, but unable to find Dell Part Number (DP/N). Please have a look in the internal Dell catalogue and share hinge cable DP/N. Thank you.

Also attaching a video showcasing the issue.
The laptop runs okay even after the power button starts flashing.
The performance drops significantly when this happens though.

Thanks.
Replacing the cable will fix this surely?
I am a bit skeptical cause the laptop works just fine after a reboot until I start playing an intensive game.

I found these non-dispatchable by Dell EDP cables. Search for them on the web for a seller.
Sub part number 620N2 EDP cable for 945V0 165Hz FHD LCD
Sub part number N5G2Y EDP cable for G64XH 240Hz QHD LCD

Hi @imavichandra thank you for sharing video and that performance drops significantly.
Support for Alienware m15 R6 Removing the display assembly shows what would be replaced under Dell warranty and how the display cables are attached to the system board. During factory fabrication quality assurance, there is check that display cables are not placed under tension by moving the lid.
If NOT under Dell warranty and the display cable's electrical connection becomes an unacceptable problem for user, the fix is to reseat display cables onto the system board. Installing the display assembly.
If display cables are damaged, Dell is unable to provide replacement LCD EDP Screen display cables. They are available on the internet, by searching on DP/N:-
Sub part number 620N2 EDP cable for 945V0 165Hz FHD LCD
Sub part number N5G2Y EDP cable for G64XH 240Hz QHD LCD
Sub part number N5G2Y EDP cable for 9J5P1 360Hz QHD LCD
If system board's display cable sockets are damaged, consider $100 Dell Laptop Repair | Dell Repair | Laptop Repair | Notebook Service Center (parts-people.com).
