Avamar SharePoint and SQL problem

Im getting this error:

avmossvss Error <13968>: The back-end client [server_name] has failed to backup, so its components will not be displayed for restore

My configuration is one Front-end server an one back-end server with SQL.

I only know Avamar 7.0 so I'm assuming the basic principles are the same. Yes you will need the SharePoint plugin on all servers in the farm. Please follow the documentation for installing the SharePoint plugin on your backend SQL Server. It will need to be installed under farm admin credentials so the VSS writers register properly. Installing a backend client is different from installing the frontend client.

What version of the Avamar clients are you running? Was it ever working before? What does the SharePoint backup log on the SQL server say? Are the VSS writers related to SQL and SharePoint in a stable state on both servers?

Version is 6.1. On the SharePoint server there is Avamar windows and SharePointPlugin. On the SQL server there is Avamar windows and SQL plugin (because the are more instances and databases, different type of backup). Based on your question do I need to install SharePoint plugin on the SQL server? VSS writers are OK.
