Minimum version of VMware Tools with Avamar proxy image backup

Does anyone know where I can find the minimum version of VMware Tools required when using Avamar's VMware image backup (7.1.2-21)? I didn't see it in the compatibility guide or the Avamar VMware user guide. It just says "latest available version" but some of our VMs are running older versions.
