Soft error counter reset?

Hello,

Can someone tell me if the soft and hard errors counter is suppose to reset to zero after the disk is replaced?

I replaced 2 disk but the soft and hard errors counter stayed the same and I would have expected it to reset to zero since these are new disk.  Also one of disk still shows the old drive information like it still thinks it's the old Hitachi drive whereas the replacement drive in the slot is the new Seagate drive.
