problem with nx4 raid extend
Hi!
Im new to emc, but really frustated..
I configured Celerra control station and tried to extend existed raid to all disk via provision storage but it fails with error raid_gp:: get disk technology. I searched in knowledgebase and found it possible configure via navisphere, but i cant launch this f... navisphere! in celerra manager it's not active when i try to launch Navusphere Storage system initialisation wizard it's not find my storage. All ip configured and i can ping it my CS 192.168.1.152 for management port and 192.168.1.155 for main, first cge0 (in storage_2) 192.168.1.150 and second(storage_3) 192.168.1.151, what i need more??????????
May be someone can me explain command line navicli?
How to find Raid Id existed raid group and how to extend it on all disk. I not understand this sh... 'friendly' interface.... help plz...

Hi Georgy,
welcome to the forum.
First - lets assume your NX4 was installed correctly using CSA and the Clariion (builtin RAID controller) got public IP's assigned.
before we start - is this raid group you want to extend used for NAS (NFS/CIFS/ISCS) or for SAN (FC) ?
If its used for NAS then extending it is not supported and will lead to problems.
In general for configuring storage on the NX4 there are different scenarios.
If your NX4 was bought with a FC license (check /nas/sbin/model if it tells you a model ending with FC) you can use Navi* for the LUNs used by the SAN and NAS part and/or the Storage Provisioning Wizard (SPW) for the NAS LUNs.
Wether you can use NaviSphere Express or NaviSphere Manager depends on which license you bought
If its without a Fibre Channel option then you need to use the SPW or seup Clariion.
just to to Powerlink
then in quicklink drow-down box the upper right-hand corner select "Celerra Tools"
then click NX4 / NX4FC
in the upper right quadrant under "Install" click "Step 5: Configure for production"
then "Perform common post-CSA tasks"
then "Configure additional storage for your Integrated system"
which leads to a page explaining the different methods
I would help if you can tell what model you have and what exactly you are trying to configure for what purpose
hope that helps

in order to use NaviShere Express or NaviSphere manager of course your system needs to be setup to present the Clariion SP's adresses to the outside
for example:
[nasadmin@nstest ~]$ nas_storage -info -all |grep ip_address
ip_address = 10.64.240.188
ip_address = 10.64.240.189
[nasadmin@nstest ~]$ grep SP /etc/hosts
10.64.240.188 A_CK200073500350 SPA # CLARiiON SP
10.64.240.189 B_CK200073500350 SPB # CLARiiON SP
[nasadmin@nstest ~]$ /sbin/arp -a | grep CK
B_CK200073500350 (10.64.240.189) at 00:60:16:2C:1B:50 [ether] on eth2
A_CK200073500350 (10.64.240.188) at 00:60:16:2B:C7:25 [ether] on eth0
B_CK200073500350 (10.64.240.189) at * PERM PUP on eth3
[nasadmin@nstest ~]$ /nas/sbin/navicli -h SPA getagent
Agent Rev: 6.26.9 (0.58)

If it isnt - best bet is that either the setup wasnt completed, you dont have a Navi license or its not cabled correctly.
then I would suggest to open a service request with EMC support or use the live chat

I think i need go to service support, one man explain me all my trouble, because i pressed L on booting Control Station and now i has not configured storage. I tried return Control Station to init state(set back ip addresses what i changes, remove new host delaration in /etc/host, put back /etc/rc3.d/S95check_cable). It's launched and even i see CS in CSA and can set ip to it, but then it fails with "error in getting nas model". I has expirence with netapp and panasas storage and main idea was create raidgroup and the make big volume on it and share it with nfs export. What is SPW u mentioned? Is it exist on CD's in EMC package?
/nas/bin/model tells only NX4

the SPW is available both in the CSA and in Celerra Manager
there is also a Video about in on Powerlink in Celerra Support Demos:
https://powerlink.emc.com/nsepn/webapps/btg548664833igtcuup4826/km/live1/en_US/Training/Demo/How_to_provision_unused_disks_with_CSA.exe?
Since you apparently dont have FC SAN attached hosts all you need is to create additional raidgroups with the SPW
it will create the LUNs as well, the Celerra puts them into a pool and from that pool you can create your file system
just keep in mind - dont use up all the pool if you plan on using checkpoints or replication later
my advice is to start off with the fs size you need right now - its easy to extend it or let it auto-extend
prerequisite is a *working* system where CSA was sucessfully run
Unless you know *exactly* how the Celerra and CSA works I wouldnt recommend to manually hack init files - I would suggest to ask customer service to help.
