How to delete customer number from My Account?

Can a customer number be deleted from the My Account profile?  If so, how do I delete a customer number? I have a bad customer number that prevents an online order from getting processed.  Whenever I place an online order for printer supplies or electronic accessories, I receive an email confirming the order; however, the order never gets processed.  When I inquire about the order using the purchase ID, the order can not be found.
